The US “Bloomberg” agency confirmed that the arrival of world leaders to Egypt in the first week of the COP27 climate summit dominated the summit, as the first week ended with the visit of US President Joe Biden.
She added that despite the great momentum that accompanied the first week of the summit due to the presence of more than 90 presidents and international leaders at the conference, it was not only that, behind the scenes, negotiators began to enter into the essential details of what must be achieved at this year’s summit. Most important is to rapidly expand climate finance and ensure that world emissions are finally put on a downward trajectory, to keep the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target alive.
The second week of the summit is a big step forward
She added that during the second week, ministers will try to break the deadlock on a range of issues, and ensure that the world does not back down from ambition.
“The upshot is not just for climate, it’s also for the difficult kind of geopolitical crisis we are in, where we need multilateral cooperation,” said Tom Evans, climate policy advisor at E3G think tank. We’re sending it about our ability to work together in the face of all these crises?”
